Lyrics

Cold hands, sore feet
You've been walking for an hour on abandoned streets

Weak knees, and fresh scars
It's a struggle when you're losing track of who you are

The words you stole won't save your soul
They can only buy you time

Light a candle, or curse the dark
It's all the same to me
Start a fire, or drown the spark
    And shake away the heat
Tell the truth or live a lie
    Just don't close your eyes

Let down, and so spent
You've been holding up the world with your good intent

Help out, like you should
It's a burden that you never really understood

But Caroline, I'm doing fine
It's the others who are dying

Light a candle, or curse the dark
It's all the same to me
Start a fire, or drown the spark
    And shake away the heat
Tell the truth or live a lie
Be a burden or a prize
    Stick around or say goodbye
    Just don't close your eyes

And you're breaking
But you're faking nothing's ever wrong
And concealing what you're feeling
Always standing strong

But you don't need
To act like you don't bleed
When you come falling down
Cuz there is no healing when you're not feeling
Anything at all

Have I mentioned that you are a fine storyteller? And by the way, good to see that you've added some of the music to jamendo.

Forgot to mention in my last post that the song cuts out before the end. :(

josh- would it be possible for you to update the lyrics for this song...it's kinda missing about 1/3ish of them.

Hmmm I don't see it. Are there any chords with time stamps (dots) like you did for e.g. the song 'Hey Ruth'?

Actually I've been taking keyboard lessons for a couple of years and right now I'm learning some music theory and trying to find out what scale it is in and what the chords are. So it would be nice to have something to check (and to actually be able to discover some of the 'weirder' chords which make the song sound like it should when playing... very simple example: thinking a phrase is in Em when it's actually Em7 and would sound better).

Just for the record: I play your songs by hearing (I'm pretty good at that), count the 'sharps' and the 'flats' then see which scale it is in. From there I try to figure out the chords.

This song is not the hardest, but I like it a lot! :) Cheers, Wouter

You might just be on the discussion page - here is the direct link.

I wish I could read/write music. That would make these a lot easier :)

Actually I've been taking keyboard lessons but without any/much theoretical knowledge... which I am now regretting so I am reading a book about music theory for beginners and glad I'm did... You must be 10 000 times better at making music then me, but I'm taking a crack at making my own song(s) right now. BTW what's your policy on taking your songs and making something with them (non-commercial, not for profit and I'll always attribue the artist). For example if I'd take one of your songs, put a piano arrangement on it then performed for my music school? Or put it on Jamendo?

thanks so much
hey. thanks so much for this song. I'm working on a video for an oral communications class about people who self-injure....my speech is about realizing that self-injury is an issue and that people need to stop being so stereotypical about it....this song, to me...fits my video perfectly. thanks so much.
