The Fight: 2nd out of 17 Entries
I've been writing a lot of slow songs lately, so I made a conscious effort to do the exact opposite of that, and ended up writing the most aggressive song of my life. If you don't like this song, I'm sending your ass off to Tennessee.

I like this melody, I don't like the style it's made in, I mean that verrrrryveryquicksingingoftheverse. But the chorus sounds pretty OK to me, and the song is well-done. Great quality of recording, good drums/guitars. What more can I say? This rocks:)gweez:
Initially that "verrrrryveryquicksingingoftheverse" turned me off because it reminded me of that Barenaked Ladies song, but the rest of the song really made up for it. Very nice.Dave Corun:
I like!Azwel:
theres no doubt that this is a good.. recorded really well and everything sounds great.. how do u sing that fast. good acoustic work again..Dave Corun:
Love it. Gave you a [Good] on SomeSongs.MC Pancho:
Awesome guitars as usual, but lyrics are too fast and crazy to understand at parts. After the beat changes, that's the peak of the song in my opinion.Puce:
Great tone. The piano in the introduction is a very nice touch. I like the stereo rap in this song; my entry had a similar approach, with the rap in stereo and the singing in mono. Oh crap, we may have a winner. The full stops at 1:26, and 1:49 are great, as well as the guitar harmonics at 2:02. Good use of stereo panning throughout the track. The vocals are at a perfect level, as well as everything else. The shaker in the left speaker is great too. My ONLY complaints: the vocals that come in at 3:26 are a little overpowering and I feel if they would have complemented the main vocals if they had been equalized differently (say, a telephone bandpass), and the line that follows ('gonna dis you on my mp3') is a strange change of mood that I felt undermined everything that came before it. Great musical shift at the end. Good track.Brian F:
nice groove, awesome rhythmic singing. I think the song has too many parts/changes to keep track of. they're all great individually but it feels like the song is stretching in too many directions. Maybe a bit too long and jammy for my tastes as a whole but I really dig all the parts. really great playing and super good production. awesome grunt! I wish you hadn't used the word "mp3"Roy Castle:
very professional, if a little thin sounding, at the start. i'm not too fond of the vocals though, a bit too fast and uninventive melodies. i don't think the different sections blend particularly well. the solo section and eastern-tinged outro save it. possible vote becuase it's just so well done, and because of the lyrics 'troublemaker gonna diss you on my mp3'.RoS:
"send you back to Tennessee"?? ok the production is tight. very pretty intro. cool build into the split vocal. i don't like the tone of the chorus vocal. "UHH" at 1:29 is good. great structure, very interesting and engaging. really good drop out at 2:02. The words are really empty though for how full the track is. maybe if you were really shouting and growling the main center vox it would work a lot better for me. A 'too masculine' tone. The "dis you on my mp3" is pretty dorky. great production. really great production and structure but it just isn't pushing me around like it should.Yaruss:
Very sweet keyboard at the opening. This is an excellent production. Glad to hear a change in feel from stuff I've heard from you in the past. Not that I haven't liked your prior work, I'm just glad to hear some variation. This is the kind of song that is catchy the first time you hear it, but has enough going on underneath that it is worthy of many listens. Yeah, this is quite good. Mainstream enough that I could imagine it on the radio, but has enough character and uniqueness that I would think to myself, "Ha! Actually snuck a decent song onto the radio!"Fat Steaming Bag:
This is great. I love how the intro is totally different from the main groove. The verses are sucking me in but the chorus doesnt have much of a hook. possible vote. ... MY Vote goes to The woody.Beeberonicus:
Great job! This was very enjoyable... and good vocals too!Dan the Apathetic:
i like the soft ascending part at the beginning that plays over the guitar. wow this is different for your songs. it's pretty good but it's not my favorite of your songs.Wages:
Not a bad song at all. The songs seems to be trying to be this or that, but not really sure where it is going to go.The Voice Inside Your Head:
and finally we came to 'Josh Woodward', which i can't quite put my finger on why but from the moment this one came on it just grabbed my attention and never let go. i'll have to think awhile before casting my vote but in first place is a tough battle between Beebs and Josh, with a strong third place showing by Arthur.Jim of Seattle:
(Winner's Circle) Golly jeepers. This song rocks like nobodys bidness. I love how I can understand every damn word of the patter, and how you manage to give us both a hard driving, 1-chord rock song and a cool song with lots of interesting chord changes at the same time. I couldnt even begin to critique this, since its probably far beyond what Im capable of doing. And you play so in the pocket you put the Quantize feature on my sequencer to shame. MY PREDICTED WINNER by a wide margin.Yakuza Jack:
This song is pretty rockin. I like how many directions it goes in. My only criticism of it is that the bass should have been louder. Oh yeah, and the bells at the beginning are in the same range as the 2 guitars, i think it would be better if you just took out the bells. But yeah, having a bass part as good as the rest of this song, would have made this song a winner, at least in my opinion. It is a very good song.Lonbobby:
Awesome vocal delivery. I like that tasteful groan too And that whip. Basically, very good instrumentation, and the voice works great with it.Phil. Redmon.:
I turned this one up. You should be on Drive 105. However- By this point, I am rather tired of the word "troublemaker." I'm turning it back down. You're pretty good at what you do, I bet you drive the ladies wild. I, however, am a dude. No Like.Elle 5:
total barenaked ladies meets guster....you are very talented...and your confidence and the attitude that comes through your voice kinda makes me feel like maybe you know that.. good stuff...The Sober Irishman:
Nice to see that you had time for a Songfight submission, but not a GoM Cover. I'm not sure if I like the guitar mixed to the right. Really good progressions. Really clean lines. I like the harmonic break, although I feel it could have been slightly more together. There's nothing better than good acoustic guitar solos. Groovy as hell, man. Good stuff.Eddiebangs:
Love the change after the intro. I was prepared to be a bit bored during the intro, but you threw in a nice twist. Cool groove on the drums. Nice mixing, eq, etc.. Very well produced. I like that. LOVE the break down around 2:00 - this fucking Rocks! Excellent Job! AJon Eric:
I voted King Arthur, but Josh Woodward will probably win. Josh put out a good song, too, though, so everyone wins.HeuristicsInc:
great guitars, then an excellent segue, love the bassline and the vox. this song has some really great changes. what excellence. this is a prime contender. also one of the most catchy in the fight. so far. Well, cool fight. I Liked A Lot Of It. I am ultimately voting for Josh Woodward. Great work.Jack Shite:
great tune. you bring the shit every time. i like the departure from your usual stuff. and as always, it's flawlessly executed. excellent effort. damn, i wish i could play like you... (#2)
