The Fight: Winner out of 14 Entries
This was such a last-minute hack. The song got written the day the title was announced, but then my sequencer died. I had a completely different arrangement in mind, but the morning of the deadline arrived and it still wasn't working, so I popped out the el-crappo dumbek and fretless bass guitar. Apparently, it worked.
The song is about one of the insane buskers who litter the streets of Toronto. There are a few jabs at the tabloid in there as well.
Peabody:
nice! nicely done. nicenicenice. i don't know if i'd listen to it over and over again, but it's a great song. the hit and the solo is sweeeet.Jon Eric:
More great drumming. Holy shit. This one sounds almost exactly like Dispatch until the vocals come by. The guitars, drums, and cadences of the song really make it sound like Dispatch. Fortunately, Dispatch is one of my favorite bands. You know, your name sounds like an American Idol contestant, so I was really pleasantly surprised by this. Great lyrics, too. I wrote a song once (the 8:00 song from that other thread) on a similar subject. Very strong vote contender so far.Well. I don't know whether to vote for Dispatch or Bob Dylan. Oop, sorry, I meany Josh Woodward or The 'Over. But then The 'Over killed their ending, so it's Woodward or Xiu House. But then Xiu House killed his ending instrumentally. So Woodward gets the vote, I believe.
Happy Listener:
This song has a fun beat as well. The Sober Irishman:
I feel like I've heard this before. The groove is really nice. I like the drums. Just the right levels for everything. I feel like Sting should come in on the second verse an octave higher. Yeah, Sting. You shoudl do a collab with him. Try to hook that up, man. The little perc/guitar break after the second chorus is a very nice effect. Excellent song.McFadden:
nice vocals man. lyrics r pretty cool. its a really nice song.. just lacks something for me. not sure what t is, cos it has all the right ingrediants. really good performance. i'll try and figure out whats buggin me.Lonbobby:
REALLY good. Awesome beat, and I totally got into it....I was a little sad when it ended, as I was feelin' it.Niveous:
Nice percussion and exceptional song construction. Good vocals too. Welcome to the Songfight, Josh. Keep it up.and my vote goes to: 1. Josh Woodward
The 'Over:
James Over has already stated the similarity with G+R. May I add that its closer to who do you think you are by Honeycrack. That said, this is probably gonna win this fight because it is a really good song. Hell, might get our vote too, wait and see!Jack Shite:
this is most tasty and excellent. just really well done all around. great jobKing Arthur:
ooh, I like this! Reminds me a little bit of Nick Drake, the guitar and percussion stuff. This is a very well written lyric, too - listening to the song just one time, I can see this guy clearly... this one will stay in my mind after a single hearing. Excellent guitar playing and singing, as well. Definite keeper.Starfinger:
great production. it's almost too slick sounding.Heuristics, Inc.:
i like the guitars here, and the drums. this is really nice. sometimes the melody of the singing reminds me of something, but i don't know what. good song, anyway!Humbert:
great musicianship and very well put together and recorded song. i can't help feeling a few more twists would make it stand out better. something a bit dark, unexpected or different.Alacron:
Very nice production! That really sets it apart from the crowd. Great tune. Excellent lyrics. Good instruments, great vocals. Contender.Josh Woodward got my vote, but everyone's a winner! Lollipops for all! But you have to buy them yourselves.
