Haven't heard them all yet, but I love Woodwards so far. Wow.The Idiot King:
you're one of a very few songfighters i've linked to from the idiot kings website, and songs like this are the reason why. great melodies, great chord structures (and no fear of abandoning standard major/minor chords), and great production. very well done...not a thing i would change here. this song is presented as well as it possibly could have been. that said, i've liked some of your other songs more, but i'd say this song is more "realized". congrats. score: 9Puce:
Your one guitar always sounds like four guitars. Hey, nice drumming. If there is a kick in there I can't hear it. Things are panned just a little off centre, which isn't bad, but just different. Catchy. Accordion! Biggest Problem: No Bass Drum. Arbitrary Entertainment Index: 6!Roymond:
Hey hey hey nice changes. So Rubber Soul. I'm smiling at this accordian solo. Tasteful shuffle and straight forward presentation. Maybe a bit too straight but this is a sweet song.Bolio:
Great feel to this one with the loose drums & great guitar work throughout. Good progression. Many bonus points for the great accordian solo. Good song.Chico:
I don't get the comparisons between you & me. I'll take them, but -- sure. You're a better guitar player (not to mention drummer), and you're a little more, whaddyacallit, sensitive than I've been this month. This is a great example of that. A bit more edge in the vocal would serve the excellent lyrics, I think. Just have the voice break once or twice; a spoonful of lemon makes the sweetness go down. And maybe tack on a different ending. And fergodsake, stop sounding like me. ;)Jon Eric:
The lyrics are nice, but the music reminds me of something else... can't quite place it. Nonetheless, I am digging these lyrics. Nice entry of the drums, but still this all seems familiar... Someone help me out here. Jeez, that accordian comes out of nowhere.Lunkhead:
sounds like a very elliott smith type thing going on here. this could use the layered soft vocals he used [dang, wrote that as "uses" before i remembered the poor bastard offed himself :-( ], and maybe some of the extra instrumentation he sometimes used. catchy melody, though. good singing, as usual [you still kinda remind me of james hetfield for some reason]. good use of accordion. one of those bars of accordion sounds a little off, but otherwise it's really good. is the singing a little off pitch sometimes near the end (like "you were free")? ah, there's some extra vox action, and it sounds great. more of that would be awesome. Good, as usual. I really like this tune. The addition of snare is much appreciated. Great accordion too--that adds lots of flavor. Huzzah.Loophole:
Man, I really like your voice. Guitar sounds good. I like your take on the title. This is the first song that the lyrics are interesting. Accordion? BONUS POINTS. =) This song just feels like is begging for you to go off at some point in an emotional cry of lyrics. Never do though. Still a really good song. There's not much for me to criticize in this. Great lyrics.Bortwein:

of course, the best of the guy+guitar here at SF. Are your drums sampled or real? I'm just curious. Top-notch prodution, as usual. Nice Michael Penn vibe going there. I like your choice of solo instrument. Keeper. But lyrics are a bit too much like Luka.Blue:
OK fine I admit it I liked this song. A lot. The snare won me over. *killing self*Kamakura:
What can I say this man is good. Great production and clarity. I will say the lyrics (though well performed) didn't do it for me. Love the drums, good brush work, and the squeeze box works, though I'm again not sure if it's for me (I prefer harmonica - God forbid he can play one of those too). I wish I could say cheesy but I can't. If only you had a Liverpool accent It could have been a cut off RAM. On the downside (I'm trying hard here) there are a few timing problems. Still, never mind eh! Keeper.Dre:
8.5: OK, sr. McCartney jr, did you steal that rythem of Jim above ?. ohh an accordion layering like a second accordion with hold notes would of been great. your lyrics are somewhat like chack's, i like his better. your new drum set, if little bit of at times as well. wow, it seem allot longer than 3:11. CONTENDER15-16 Puzzle:
Shades of Stand By Your Man. The arrangement of this song bores me. ooooh, harmonies at the end, even that would have helped spruce it up. At some point, I expected a whole band arrangement to kick in, various instruments carrying counterpoint and other rhythms to the song. This song is okay.Johnny Cashpoint:
Hmmm, another 5 minute Josh Woodward song? I cant wait! Strangely reminiscent of Jim Tyrells bouncy chord take on the title I preferred his, but I do like the chords at these walls are paper thin. You do this stuff with your eyes closed, but just because you can doesnt mean you should. It sounds like a throwaway ditty to me. But then again, what do you care what I have to say? You shouldnt do because in all my time reviewing JW songs I am painfully aware of the fact that I have not offered one useful piece of advice.
