The Fight: 2nd out of 15 Entries
15-16 Candles :
Hmmmm, this song, it's not bad. I don't care for the tone of your voice on the first and last verse, it sounds like you're trying to sound cute. But the way your voice sounds on the rest of the song suits it much better. Reminds me of "Me and Coolio down by the Schoolyard", can't really say why. Hmmm, I would have killed it at 1:59, or come back in with the bridge again. Those last 40 seconds or so, I start saying: "Hmmm, this riff again", it starts feeling tired instead of fun. This song, it's not bad.Rabid Garfunkel :
Damnit, you always bring the game. And hard, too. Multiple time signatures, yay! Good writing.Abecedarian :
This is a fun little number. The time signature changes are well done. I like the 70's feel of this. Something is not quite right about the bass sound as I hear it. I can't describe it technically, but if I could see the bass sound it would look like a Hershey's kiss instead of the comet shape I would hope for. I should win a 'strangest criticism' award for that comment!Elle 5 of 10 Feet Tall :
this is my fav Josh Woodward entry in a long time if not everrrrrrr---- u rocked it you Jigalo ( did i spell that right? doubt it) such good times- it all worked i loved it and wanna make out with this songLeaf 62 :
PROS: You are a fine songwriter. Your production skills are good. You play everything real well too. This is a good bar room tune. I still haven't sent away for your cd yet by the way... nice 6/8 breakdown bridge...you should be on the college circuit playing coffee houses and such man. (maybe you are...)
CONS: Too Barenaked Ladies for me. It seems that stylitically, neither of us can please the other eh?!! ACtually, I'm not down on your style, cause I think it's really quite good, I just had to toss in the BNL reference cause you got that going on...and they always sound real good to me, but don't turn me on for some reason.
OVERALL:A catchy, fun tune. CONTENDER. now get off your ass and make something of your career so we all can be proud of our little sf'er mate. (just kidding dude, you work hard. )Rabid Garfunkel :
Damn, it's all tight. So I'll just comment on the subtle misogyny of the lyrics, and the aftertaste of self-loathing of/by the narrative character. Nicely written.the voice inside your head :
kind of less-pop-oriented than most of your songs i've heard, which is a good thing in my opinion. the tempo changes serve pretty well at catching my interest; if this makes sense, i think the faster parts sound better in contrast to the slower parts (as you've done it here) than it would have sounded otherwise.Jim of Seattle :
(Honorable Mention) You're falling into the Brother Machine trap by my reckoning. Slick as ever, but I know you can churn out unctious charmers like this in your sleep, so I kind of want more. What I'd really like to hear is something which takes some more chances. I suspect that with your abilities it would be a successful endeavor, but how exciting it would be to hear you try something ambitious, even if it failed. As nice as this is, I found myself sort of sighing with disappointment because, like most weeks, you exactly meet my expectations and nothing more. These are the kinds of songs that make a lot of money, which is a good thing. But I hear a wall between your very accomplished music and the real you. OK, that's got to be the single worst review of a song to go into this category I've ever written.Kamakura :
You don't come across as the 'Gigolo' type. Another good Woodward. KeeperUser :
Peptastic. And then slow, but still quite good. I like your heavy ritardos. The bridge (I guess you would call it...) is a really nice touch. So, good job. Also, clever content. This and the stalking song do well to contradict your nice boy image (which, if you didn't know, you have). (2nd place)Roymond :
this is a fun romp but i has little of the distinctive flow you often bring to the mix.Neil Thrun :
Aaaaah thats great. Its sooo annoying and happy it makes me scream with happiness. And the lyrics rule. Why is it the annoying assholes make the best music? But seriously this is just as good if not better than your other works.
