Dear alien overlords who have stolen Josh Woodward and replaced him with Clone Robot Rocker Model AX14: GJ!

Ryn:

Good production, as always. I didn't think that this was as good as some of your other stuff. (Im a big fan of acoustic rock) Not much else to say. Possible vote.

This tune is bordering on generic, but I like it well enough. The chorus, where you're yelling but more in the background--your voice sounds pretty weak there. Just not a lotta gusto behind it, like it seems you were going for. Good performance all around, and way to cap it off with that chord. Definitely a keeper. Also: "The price of freedom is liberty"? Are you being redundant on purpose, or do you equate those words with different meanings?

Bolio:

Verse - excellent. Chorus - ok. Lyrics - exceptional. Excellent mix makes this one very crankable, & now co-workers are getting into it. JW you are a crowd-pleaser. (2nd)

The World is watching America, while America is watching TV".. a lot of the world is mostly watching American TV, and not really America at all, but I digress. I'll have to look back on the review board and see if you get the inevitable backlash that seems to occur around here if you make and even vaguely political song. I think this is a good clear concise song, wether people agree with the sentiment or not. I like the way you change up the vocals. This song sounds good, as per usual. I think I just like 'crappier' sounding music. Your stuff is always so well put together, maybe I'm just bitter and nitpicky, but the craft of what you do seems to detract from the emotional connection. I'm not doubting that you have an emotional connection with your music, but I'm not hearing it in this song in particular. Do you get that feeling with your own work? If you do, have you considered writing something a little more raw and off the cuff? As I said, this might just be my jealousy of your chops talking. Something to consider. (edit - while looking briefly through the board to see what the hell was up with ryan richenbach's tune I read your own review of you and you say that it has a 'loose' feeling.. clearly things are coming down on the side of my jealousy)

me: "hello elliot smith" jw: "oh no, im josh woodward" me: "oh, could have fooled me, except those extra rocky parts in your song" jw: "yeah maybe i should have kept those out" me: "yeah thats what i was thinking" me: "it would have been a lot cooler" jw: "well i dont want to just copy that suicide victim..." me: "noted. but he is awesome, so even a copy of him is worthy of something" jw: "yeah i can see that" 6

Dre:

7.7 CONTENDER liking this, the guitar/drums/hats.. cool.. a bit different from your usual stuff(musically) but your still singing this song like if it was your regular stuff, which is not; and thats the biggest problem with this song. energy on the vox don't match up with the music.. even tho it seems like your trying really hard in the chorus(screaming part) and i got to be honest with you, am back here laughing a bit.. don't worry cuz i got nothing but massive respect for you, but just imagine james taylor trying to sing like oasis, if i can put it like that. niceeeeeeee break/guitar solo, great example of simplicity at it's best. got the lyrics, but they really didnt do much for me, yeah i get it, i get it, we are all fat tv couch potatoes. .thanks.(i know is deeper than that.)

Richard Wreckdom:

This music sounds like it was washed with anti-bacterial soap. If you're trying to say something; cool, but express a little emotion or your message is lip service.

Hujhax:

Intro sets a mood nicely. Nice that somebody's taking this political. :) The vocal effect on the chorus isn't doing much for me... sorry, wish I could be more specific. The solo at 2:12 starts out seeming inappropriately chipper for the song. Feel like the solo could have gotten to the drum crescendo at 2:45 a little quicker -- from then on the changes in dynamic held my interest. I like the quiet verse reprise -- the line "The world is watchin' America / And America is watchin' the TV" got a smile out of me.

Kapitano:

I really like the sound and sentiment of this one. Great lyrics. One small production issue - you used dynamic compression? There's a risk when using compression of 'pumping', which is where a burst of a loud instrument - like a drum hit - forces all the other instruments down in amplitude, and then back up again, for the duration of the burst. You'll know the effect when you hear it, and it's distracting. There is, i think. slight pumping on this track. Favourite so far.

The Human Cello:

ahhh, an anti-war song. i'm a sucker for those. cool lyrics. not a whole lot like some of your other stuff. it's much darker, but still unmistakably josh woodward. nice chord at the end, and a nice job, 3 and 3/4 stars. (keeper, 2nd place)

C Hack:

this could win it. I remember being really annoyed at your lyrics to another song (spirit world, maybe?) that way oversimplified foreign policy. But in this one, you're handling it really well. CONTENDER; KEEPER. so we've got the best regular song (woodward), the best experimental song (dre), and the best nerdcore/funny* song (kellis). Even though Dre's and Kellis's were the only ones I listened to more than once, I'm voting for Woodward because he did the regular genre better than dre did the experimental and kellis did the nerdcore genres.

C.Layne:

the music is good. the message is annoying. stellar production as always, except the effect on the vocal during the chorus is a bit shrill during certain parts.
