Lyrics

I took some bread to him today
He was awake, but he wouldn't take it

He's getting frailer every day
Tied to the chair, under the stairs

But death is not a friend he's ever gonna meet
As long as I am here, he's staying in that seat
And he's gonna pay, in every way

The night he broke into her home
He thought he was strong, but god he was wrong

Now he's naked and alone
Scarred and abused, battered and bruised

It's only been a year but I have just begun
As long as I am here, I never will be done
Yeah, he's gonna pay, in every way

Nothing in the world could ever pay his debt
But I am gonna get as close as I can get
Yeah, he's gonna pay, in every way

Sweet jebus, that ENDING. At first I wasn't sure if the beautiful melody and instrumentation were taking away from the building tension in the lyrics or enhancing it, but now I am thoroughly disturbed in the best possible way.

I fiddled with cello parts on "The Simple Life" (with "Don't Close Your Eyes", "Memorized" and "Good to Go".. maybe others?) I haven't gotten much better since then. hehe

Wow! That was intense, in a very beautiful way. I love your music so much.

Oh, and I saw some that looked a lot like you in the library a couple weeks ago. But it probably wasn't you.

A Library all the way in Pittsburgh...So I was doubting it was you. But even my friend said the man bore a striking resemblance!

I sincerely don't understand. Why would you feed this? Please, help me understand. I know, it's real, it's human, and as Montaigne said, "I am a man, nothing human is foreign to me." I get that. But in this world, torture is real, we do it, and some people justify it. It's not abstract anymore. Feeding the man under the stairs just to keep him alive to suffer, is like feeding this impulse in ourselves, only we're the ones suffering. Why can't we just let it starve and fade away?
