The Next CD

Posted on Wed, May 2, 2007

It's about that magical time of the year for me to put out a new CD! I'm very close - the first five and the last four songs are figured out, and I just need to assemble some mid-album glue. And of course, figure out the artwork and liner notes. As of right now, I'm looking at an early June release.

The style is going to be very different this time around. It's going to be much more of a rock CD than I've done in the past, especially compared with "Only Whispering". The demos on this site have been frozen for a couple months, and the unreleased new versions of the songs have come a long way. A couple of them are completely redone from scratch, and the rest have had fairly big overhauls. I'm super-excited about this CD, usually by this time of the process, I'm already sick of hearing the songs, but I still love them. I'll be curious what the reaction will be, since it's going to be a big style shift, but I think it's going to easily be the best I've done.

Since I decided a few months ago that I'm not going to try to make money from my music anymore, this release is going to be different than before. I'm going back to self-produced CDs, and the prices are going to be very cheap. I'm considering a sliding scale - for instance, my CDs would be a base price of $3 to cover my raw costs for the disc and shipping, and if you want to pay more, great.

The other difference is that I'm probably not going to do an official CD release party this time. It's partly because Amici is booked up from here to eternity, partly because I've been disillusioned with live gigging, and partly because the songs I've been doing lately don't translate to guy-and-guitar solo shows. There's been talk of a full-band rock show this summer. We'll see. :)

You know what you should do instead of a CD release party?

A tour.

Yeah, that'd be a pretty good idea. I already know what your first stop can be. (Hint, it ends in "delphia" and starts with "Phila")

I'm kind of disappointed that this CD will be mostly rock, as I'm more of a folksy person myself, but I'm sure I'll still love it.

I have a question though. Is there any way I can buy your CD's offline? Being under 18 and having uncooperative parents, I don't have a credit card or any convenient way in which to pay online.

They'll be for sale at my shows, and anytime at Coffee Amici in Findlay (look right as you walk in the door). :)

After this album, you should do a double disc live album. Call it "Josh Wooward - Only Rocking".

You could have a full band do it and it'd be sweet. You could include material from all 4 albums, including acoustic songs with drums that you've never really gotten to perform fully out before, like:

Hey Ruth
Cardinal Brigade
Dust
etc... It'd be sweet.
