zassenhaus coffee grinder Email to a Friend RSS Syndication Posted on Fri, Apr 30 2004 As hinted at awhile ago, my old burr grinder was on its last legs. While investigating the replacement options, I came across an interesting idea - hand-crank grinders. A company called Zassenhaus has been making the best ones for zillions of years. I picked up one of their 169DG models on ebay and am drinking the first cup o' joe from it. Yum. They use a conical burr design, which is as good as it gets. The grind is amazingly consistent, it doesn't build up heat like electric grinders, and it doesn't take much labor to run it (especially when you make one cup at a time). Best of all, there's a 10-year warranty on the beasts. Try that with an electric burr mill! If you drink coffee, get one. Now. :) Older ones might have had some of the ironwork done by the Record tool company of England, famous for making hand planes. I have been trying to buy a ceramic wall-mounted Zassenhaus, but the U.S. sellers carry only a small selection of their whole line.
