Josh is forgetting to tell you something I've been there and it is well worth the price.
You may pay $10.00 - $11.00 for a bowl. BUT What he's not telling you is how big the pieces of meat they have as well as freshness. Now if you are smart and know how to make your own bowl and get your moneys worth you can pack the bowl and pile it as high as you can get it. You can easily get 2 meals out of it.. I do mean easily. I pack the bowl to the point where I am 4 inches over the rim. Yes if you make your bowl right you can get your moneys worth. I probabl had 2 pounds of chicken in mine. Now boneless chicken breasts are about $2.00 a pound at the meat market. That's $4.00 right there. Not to mention everything else and having it cooked for you.. This is perfect for a shift worker. If you work second for example. You can go in there get your lunch and have plenty left for your lunch break at work. You can have a variety of meals. One could go there every day and get something different. I give it a 9 out of 10 If you enjoy eating a giant two pound mound of chicken in one sitting, then maybe it's worth it. Otherwise, I'm still pretty underwhelmed. *shrugs*
Josh Woodward - http://www.JoshWoodward.com/ I agree that the food is great... but the price was a little suprising. We went there for lunch the first time we ate there... yes it was $11 a bowl, but we got to go back and load up again and also got a box to take the leftovers! This was a good deal. HOWEVER, when we went back for supper on a seperate occasion, it was not mentioned that we would be charged an additional $4 EACH for another trip to the grill. Had I known this I'd have taken home about 3 more boxes. Again, didn't know until the bill arrived. Just FYI. Really good food though.
Are you sure the refills at lunch are free? I never heard this. I know dinner is 3 or 4 dollars more.
I dont like to try new things, but a guy took me on a date there and it was wonderful. its differant from anything else ive ever tried. it's worth the $11 for that occasional night out.
Yeah i would have to say that place is awesome and worth every penny. I wnt there with my boyfriend and had a very enjoyable experience. I think it's pretty cool how they do tricks with your food... like throw it in the air and stuff. It's awesome. Not to mention it's very filling.. i'm takeing my little brother there for his birthday.
Try BD's Mongolian BBQ sometime. You'll be blown away.
Josh Woodward - http://www.JoshWoodward.com/ We have been to Blue Pacific Grill twice and I was not significantly impressed. Their selection is about a 1/4 to 1/3 of what BD's offers the grill surface area is much 1/3 the size compared to BD's. The cooks are not entertaining at all which was very disappointing as that is part of the fun experience at BD's. Your food is not served with tortilla's either. We ate at this place quite some time ago and I believe they raised the prices. I think they justify this since it sits in Levis Commons and very pricey area to begin with.
Listen to Josh....experinece BD's Mongolian BBQ and you will see exactly what we are talking about! the bpg is a small family owned rest. It really suprises me how people complain that the price went up one doller hello gas prices, minimum wage increased last year and yes we do have tortillas!! you can take the long trip to bd's or pay the measly $11 thats a steal considering the size of a bowl.if your complaining of that price you probably dont need to be eating out!
I just came from my first experience at BPG. I was two steps inside the door when my complaining started. It was COLD in there. Not just cool or chilly, but COLD. I mentioned this to our waitress and she said it was due to the humidity causing the floor to be slippery. I told her 'you need a different floor'. Her second comment was it was due to 'the grill'. What? I told her I had been a waitress for many years and that the temperature should be for the customers comfort, not the employees. I also told her I would not be back and I would contact a manager and/or corporate headquarters. My daughter and I went there with a BOGO couppon from the Entertainment book on our way to the movie theater. We can't just drive to Ann Arbor or Columbus for lunch or dinner. Maybe BD's could consider moving closer to our area? Back to BPG....I packed my bowl fairly well and chose a Thai Peanut Sauce. Noodles I never heard of that turned out to be fettucine. BTW, my daughter ordered tortillas. Someone mentioned in a post that they didn't have them. While in line, I realized they have an outdoor eating area, so we moved our drinks outside where it was in the upper 70's and overcast. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and the waitress somehow changed her attitude...to being very pleasant. When she brought the bill, she explained that the manager had only charged for one meal so we could save out BOGO coupon for another time. He apologized about the COLD interior and said he'd see what he could do about it. Tipping was confusing since there was a generic tip jar at the grill. Actually that's where the tips are earned since the waitress only sat us, and brought our drinks and bill. But, we also tipped her. Retired waitresses do that. Would I go back? Yes, but not often. Maggie's Restaurant, fantastic homemade Hungarian food, is right down the street at $10 or less per dinner (lunch is cheaper) with free second helpings.
I did a google search on Blue Pacific Grill after hearing from a friend of mine that is is apparently closed. I personally loved this place. It is also where my fiance and I had our date. Does anyone have any news or information or was my friend mistaken?
It was open as of a few weeks ago, so if it closed, it was very recently.
There are a couple of new Asian restaurants at Levis Commons, and both look nice, so it's possible they just gave up. Josh Woodward - http://www.JoshWoodward.com/ I was there last week and it was not closed.
Blue Pacific is still open. They switched management 2yrs ago. Great place to eat. and great drinks too.
I am a Manager at the Blue Pacific Grill and I have reviewed all of the posts and would like to thank everyone for their opinions and views. No we are not closed and we are actually doing great. The price for lunch is $9.99 a bowl and $4 more for all you can eat. It is an 8oz. serving but everyone knows how to get more out of that. At dinner it is a 12oz. serving for $11.99 a bowl and all you can eat is $4 more. I know that the temperature setting was ridiculously cold but that matter has been taken care of. As far as the service we are under new ownership and they have went through numerous new employees who have been trained by them. We all know that BD's is a great concept and a great corporation and we by no means are trying to copy off of them. We are trying to go a different route and provide good, healthy food to all of the customers for an affordable price. I know a few people have complained about the pricing but you have to notice the quality of the meat and the freshness of the products that you are getting. We order the highest grade of meats from Malcom Meats so we pay a lot more than your traditional Mongolian BBQ. Most customers think that business owners are just trying to make themselves more money but it is supply and demand. When you order more expensive products to suit your customers, you have to charge a little more. You can't go anywhere in Levis commons and get a steak and shrimp dinner for under $12 but here you can. Blue Pacific Grill is not closing. The Blue Point Fish Club closed and switched to a Bar Louie which is a great concept here is Levis Commons for the younger professionals who would like to stop and get a beer and a quick sandwich. I hope that this message gets posted so that you all know how much we appreciate everyone's concerns and how hard we try to make sure that we are accomodating each and every customer. Please keep posting and let us know how we can continue to improve. Thanks.
ahem.. FUCK YOU buddy. its probably brandon or some other jerk who calls themself a manager there.. right..
By the way,, the quality of the food is shit. I would know. I prepped the food. not very sanitary... not to mention old and leftover. The servers hate their jobs, the grillers have nuts for brains, and the managers.. well.. i should say lack thereof. I hope to God you're under new ownership. falkner doesnt know how to run his own fucking dildo. stick that in your pipe and smoke it. you owe me 250 dollars also. thanks. Wow! No ax to grind there! I wonder how fair and accurate those statements could be? I thought this was a review site not Drama-R-us. Let's see real reviews and not how somebody's vagina hurts.
OWNED! dude who is this... totally agreed.
We were at your location recently with three other couples. We have been there before. This time we were charged 18% gratuity (because there were 8 of us) AND we each put money in the jar at the grill. We all think that it is preposterous to charge 18% for having someone bring you a refill...and you often have to locate them to get that. This is certainly NOT FULL SERVICE and 18% is way out of line. Each couple used a 20% coupon so less the 18% we actually wasted a coupon for 2%. No complaint on the food, we enjoy it but 18% for refills and a bowl? You can email me at Crafter@buckeye-express.com with any comment.
Food is very good but do not go there with a party of 8 or more. You will be charged 18% gratuity for some girl bringing you a refill of your beverage. I understand a good tip for FULL SERVICE and usually leave 20% but 18% for FAR LESS than full service is way more than should be left for someone who does nothing more than give you a bowl when you arrive and then get you a refill...and you often have to request them to do that.
I'm just curious how people don't think servers at Blue Pacific Grill deserve a tip. In a full service rest. the only other difference that a server does there is take your order and put it in a computer. Most full service places also have food runners so the server doesn't even bring you your food, so if you break it down, they all really do the same thing and all only make $3.50 an hour so they have to make money somehow.
At $11 per bowl, if the management isn't paying the cooks enough to do their thing, something's very wrong.
Josh Woodward - http://www.JoshWoodward.com/ get a grip people where can u eat at w/ 8 or more people w/out having to leave a gratuity charge i thought it was well worth the trip.who goes out to eat w/ a group of people all ready to use a coupon before they even get there bill anyways??!!
I'm with John above - a forced 18% tip at a place like that is really lame.
Josh Woodward - http://www.JoshWoodward.com/ I agree with you to some point that 18% gratuity at a place like BPG can be preposterous. However even though you are only receiving a bowl and drinks there are a lot of demands. Anyone who has worked in the food industry knows how difficult it can be to please everyone. Usually a party comes in with the intent not to leave a tip because there are so many people in the party and they can get away with it and not feel bad. This is why restaurant establishments charge all parties of 8 or more gratuity so that they can feel that they serviced you.
I've been to BPG once with my family a while back and we really enjoyed it. The pricing may be a little steep but I don't mind going there occasionally. Infact, I'm going there again tonight.
Blue Pacific used to be my all time favorite place to eat. Sorry to say on the last 3 occasions the food was not very good. The shrimp tasted like raw fish, and 2 out of the last 3 times we went at least 2 out of 5 of us got sick. I am not sure how fresh the meat is anymore.
Sharon,
I am sorry to hear that you have been dissatisfied with the quality of food at the restaurant the past few visits. We get our meat in every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to ensure quality and freshness. We have had some concerns regarding the quality of the shrimp as we are currently looking into it with our seafood provider. We are not the only restaurant experiencing these problems and it has been a huge concern to all of us. We have taken the shrimp off of the line but we receive so many complaints. We get new shrimp product in everyday testing to see if it meets our standards. All of our food is fresh daily and if you ever have any problems please contact the Management so that we may be able to resolve this issue. Thank you for your comment and we sincerely apologize for any inconveniences.
I took my daughter there for lunch and had been there previously before, but never checked the price as someone else paid, but for a lunch for 2 of us, it was $30.00. That's crazy for lunch. We just had one bowl a piece and each had a soft drink. I think they need to be up front with the pricing. BD Mongolian gives you a menu with pricing on it so there are no surprises.
My husband and I dined at BPG last night for the first time. We had planned on going there for some time and were excited to try it since we are both fans of bd's. We each got a one trip and I thought I was still a little hungry and would like to get another bowl--something else to taste (I purposely made my first bowl smaller so I could try something else the second time). I knew I would never be able to finish an entire second bowl, so I asked the waitress if I could not finish it if I could take the rest home. We were given a flat-out "no--we don't allow to-go boxes if you get more than one bowl." What? So I asked her again in case she misunderstood me me. "So, if I get another bowl and eat only 3/4 of it, I can't take the rest home?" Her reply was again no. Needless to say we decided to forget the second bowl and will not be eating there again. I am all for supporting locally owned restaurants, but please.
Lara,
I apologize for your inconvenience but the reason that we do not allow customers to take home all you can eat is because of how people have abused it in the past. We have had customers ask for all you can eat and then make a bowl and take one bite, then leave. They piled the ingredients on just so they could have lunch the next day. We realize that this is an inconvenience and that we cannot please everyone but with people abusing some of our services, we have had to change some of our rules and procedures. I hope that this would not alter your decision to come back just because of this specific incident if the food and service was up to your standards. Again I apologize and I hope you can understand why this rule was put in place. Thanks.
Blue Pacific Grill Management
I don't really understand the policy. I know that any type of buffet restaurant rarely lets you take things home. However, I think the policy should be a little more flexible. There is a distinct difference in someone filling up a plate and eating one bite and wanting to take it home and someone eating almost all of it and not wanting to waste the rest. Any server should be able to tell the difference. Instead, not wanting to have to gorge myself or waste food I went home hungry--not a quality you normally look for in a restaurant. I think a little reasoning needs to be used. Sorry, but I don't think I'll be returning. Not worth it.
Again I apologize for the inconvenience but we have tried to be flexible with this rule but unfortunately upset customers because one person would fill their second or third bowl completely past the rim and take one bite and want a carryout container when others would eat what they could and then take home the rest if we felt that they weren't trying to "cheat the system." We cannot please everyone but we attempt to do our best in every circumstance. Most of the time if a customer asks to speak to one of us Managers, then we are more than likely going to cater to that person. I understand your frustration with the whole policy but it does imprint the idea in our customers' mind so that they know what to expect. We provide the highest quality of product to the customer at a very reasonable price so that everyone can fill up without emptying their wallets. If you do happen to change your mind in the future, contact the management and we will make sure that we make your next visit very well worth the trip. I am sorry once again.
For anyone thinking of dining at BPG in Levis, expect burnt food and less than courteous service. I have actually walked out due to the way the food was cooked. I timed the cook it took her 4.5 minutes to stir our food on the grill. Not to mention there were 8 others on the grill with one cook . It seems the help is disinterested and would rather chat around the cash register. I give it 6 months they'll be gone.
I went there with a friend of mine, and the waitress totally forgot about us, 'i'll get your server in a second, oh wait thats me' I wasnt impressed. Still, the food was very good, even the griller guy was fun. I didnt know it cost that much. And I do think that they should post the prices. There wasnt anything to give you a clue when I was there. I think that gives a worse impression then the poor service. It seems a bit shady to me. I plan on going back when I'm around, if its under new managment then the prices should be posted, right? The waitress should be gone, right? Hopefully, cause you dont realize it, but a bad server can ruin your time there real quick.
Just came back from eating at this restaurant in Perrysville. Here are my comments:
1. Atmosphere: Clean, but felt too much like any fast-food joint. Architecture is nothing special. Very chilly inside. You will need a jacket - even in the summer.
2. Service: Mixed. Our host was pleasant and we got a table very fast. The service from that point on was nothing to write home about. With very few customers, the service should have been much, much better.
3. Quality of food: Very good. While it is comparable to Mongolian Grill in some respects, I felt that the overall taste and quality of the food was a few notches better. For instance the shrimp was bigger and absolutely tasted better.
Note: Very little care had been paid attention to the various vegetable ingredients for your bowl. The vegetables were mixed together. Obviously some rude moron who had never been taught on how to use a food bar, had gone a little berserk. Regardless, the bar should have been constantly tended to. For my visit, it was ignored.
4. Value: Unsatisfactory. $11 for one lunch bowl is way too high. The $15 for an unlimited is too high a price as well. Adding insult to injury is HAVING TO PAY EXTRA for tortillas, grated cheese and sour cream, as well as an extra bowl of noodles or rice. I feel that Blue Pacific is VERY greedy and tries to take advantage of its customers. I don't care how they try to justify these extra charges, its too much to ask a customer to pay on top of the over-proced bowls. In fact it is INSULTING.
Overall Experience: Below Average - Unsatisfactory. The way the place is laid out leaves much to be desired. Everything is too confined and I had to wait in a long line of obese people who were 'taking over' the food area. Add to that the insulting extra charges that this place tries to get away with, and you have a poor dining experience overall. It's too bad. The food is really good.
Compared to Mongolian Grill: While MG is noisier and not quite as clean, I don't feel taken advantage of there and I can pile all the damn noodles I want in my bowl and don't have to worry about being charged extra. As for food taste, it is a toss-up, but Blue Pacific scores a bit higher in that department.
Usually that should be enough for a repeat visit alone, but this restaurant has far too many issues for me to even think about returning.
I went to blue pacific a few weeks ago for my first time and must have had a total different experience from the last few reviews. I really enjoyed all the different choices you have to choose from and thought the prices were fair. the theme of the place is really creative. I used to be in the restaraunt business and it's a tough place. With the way gas prices are these days and cost of food delivery, I wont be surprised if the cost of food will continue to rise. the waitress I had acted like she had all of her lines memorized, which I didn't care for because I like them to be down to earth and normal. I still tipped her well because I think it's only respectful and they are only making probably two dollars an hour. overall, its different and has nice quality of food. I'll definately be back to eat, but if you want to be tight on money and don't feel like tipping your waitress, then you shouldn't be going out to eat anyways.
After reviewing all of the recent posts I would like to address the different concerns that each of you have. First off I would like to thank you Jim for your compliments. They are greatly appreciated. Secondly, I apologize for any incidents that you all have experienced while dining with us. The prices for the meals are posted on each table in the restaurant. We charge for tortillas, sour cream, cheese, and extra noodles because of the exessive use, only to throw away 90% of what the customer ordered. Food costs have increased 12% over the past 3 months along with the rising fuel costs. We have assumed an increase in prices from all of our vendors and we have found a way to cut costs rather than raise prices until a couple of weeks ago. There is not a restaurant in Levis Commons, let alone Northwest Ohio that you can spend less that what you spend at the Blue Pacific Grill. Again our theme is similar to BD's Mongolian BBQ but we are attempting to provide better quality and much more. You pay the same price at Bd's as you do at the Blue Pacific Grill. You can load up on noodles because they are implemented on the line but we choose to keep the line strictly for fresh produce, meats, seafoods, and fruits. There are no excuses for poor service and we take that very serious. If you have ever had a negative experience then we encourage each customer to contact the management so that we can resolve the matter in an appropriate way. The restaurant business is very demanding but we enjoy each and every customer as we value all of your comments or suggestions. If you are not satisfied with the service, your meal, or anything else then I invite you to contact the management and we will handle the situation in an appropriate manner. We are not greedy and charge customers extra money so that we can personally benefit from it. We are simply trying to keep up with the high demands of the economy and pay off any increases that we have assumed. Again I apologize for any inconvenience and would like to know the names of the servers whom gave you such poor service so that I personally can take care of the situation.
Lots of whiners on here.
Food is good, ingredients are fresh. I would much rather spend $24 on dinner here than some chain restaurant like applebee's.
1. servers make $3.50 an hour.
2. if you don't want to tip your server, then don't go out to eat
3. where else can you go and NOT get charged gratuity for 8 or more people
4. when you go out to a restaraunt, your server RARELY brings you your food, unless they aren't busy at all
3. Blue Pacific is awesome because you can try something new every time you go
4. where else can you get that much food for 12 bucks?
5. with the economy now, prices have to go up, HELLO GAS PRICES!!!
6. have you people ever heard of someone having a bad day? you don't know what is going on in someone's life unless you personally know them, so give the servers a break, they are trying to pay bills just like you, most of them are in college so if you are going to let them "ruin" your experience then i suggest you go serve the public for a week and then say something
some people are a joke... Blue Pacific ROCKS!!
Ok it was just ok.Hate to be like the others on here but BD's mongolian barbeque is SO much better and cheaper, and whats with the sauces?Do yourselves a favor and drive to canton, ann arbor, dearborn, and go to the BD's in those towns.
I was going to take my wife and daughter to Blue Pacific for Mother's Day instead of BD's in Ann Arbor, where we often go. I thought it would be fun to support a local place and shorten the car trip.
Then I went to the Blue Pacific website and saw that it's $13 for a single bowl and $19 for multiple bowls, while BD's charges $8.50 for a single bowl and $13 for multiple bowls. Further, 2-year-olds eat free at BD's, but Blue Pacific charges $5 for a kid's bowl. Blue Pacific also charges for tortillas, etc.
After looking at the prices, we decided we'd stick with BD's, our old favorite, rather than shell out 150% more to take a chance on a new place. If Blue Pacific's going to keep charging such high prices, they need to try harder to make the case that it's worth the substantially greater cost compared to the "big guys."
I have to disagree with some of these comments. I recently dined at Blue Pacific and found it very satisfactory. I have dined at BD's before and was not overly impressed with the quality of food. The prices may be higher at Blue Pacific but you are getting better quality. Yes it can be deceitful that they charge for extras but what restaurant doesn't? The food is amazing, the ambience is subpar, and the service was great. For those of you who hate paying the full price and for what you get use coupons!!!!
Until we get a BD's Mongolian BBQ in Toledo, Blue Pacific Grill will have to do.
For those of you that think that BD's is a better value, their vegetarian bowls are $10.99, while Blue Pacific's is only $8.99, both places bowls are the same price but at Blue Pacific you aren't charged extra for fried rice as you are at BD's. At Blue Pacific you don't have to put your noodles in your bowl first which leaves less room for the actual food. Blue Pacific also offers many discounts to even further their value. In then end Blue Pacific's quality is far better than BD's
Because everyone goes there for the vegetarian bowls? :-/ Let's compare what most people actually order:
Regular bowl, dinner - Mongo $13, BPG $13 Unlimited, dinner - Mongo $15, BPG $19 Regular bowl, lunch - Mongo $8, BPG $13 Unlimited, lunch - Mongo $14, BPG $19 I'm sorry, but I can't see BPG lasting once Mongolian BBQ opens up at Franklin Park. The prices would need to come way down or the quality would have to improve. Josh Woodward - http://www.JoshWoodward.com/
